Rinnai gas heater code 14: Filter blocked or overheat

Gas heater, Australia

The fan filter is blocked or the heater has overheated, so it stopped.

You can often clear this yourself. Work through the causes below in order, most likely first.

What causes it

  1. The fan filter at the back of the heater is clogged with dust or lint.

Clean the Energysaver fan filterYou can do this

    1. Turn the heater off and wait until the fan has stopped and the heater is cool, then unplug it.
Do not unplug the heater while the fan is still running.
    2. Pull the fan filter straight up and out of the back of the heater. The 1005FT has two filters.
    3. Vacuum or dust a dry filter. If it is oily, wash it in mild detergent, drain it and let it dry fully.
    4. Refit the filter, plug the heater in and turn it on.
Never run the heater without the filter in place, and do not keep using it with the filter indicator flashing.
    5. Clean the filter weekly during the heating season to stop this code returning.
  2. If the code returns with a clean filter, the heater needs a service call.
