The exhaust gas leaving the heater went above 149°F (65°C), so the heater shut down.
This needs a licensed gas technician. There are a few safe checks you can do first, marked below. Anything inside the unit is a job for a professional.
This involves the flue or exhaust. A blocked or leaking flue can let carbon monoxide into the home.
What causes it
-
A one-off overheat that clears once the heater has cooled down.
-
A blocked cold water inlet filter is cutting the flow of water through the heat exchanger.
-
Scale has built up inside the heat exchanger and needs flushing out.
-
A fault that needs a technician. Suspect this when the code keeps coming back after the filter is clean and the heat exchanger has been flushed.
