Goodman gas furnace code EA0: R-32 refrigerant leak detected
Gas furnace, Canada and United States
The R-32 sensor has detected a refrigerant leak and the furnace is in mitigation mode. It shuts off the gas heat and runs the blower at full airflow until five minutes after the leak is no longer detected.
This needs an HVAC technician. There are a few safe checks you can do first, marked below. Anything inside the unit is a job for a professional.
This involves the refrigerant circuit, which only a licensed technician may open.
Only some models show this code. Check the list below.
What causes it
-
Refrigerant is leaking at the indoor coil. A technician looks for the leak.
Leave the furnace running while it clears a possible R-32 leakYou can do this
- Leave the furnace powered. In this mode it has stopped the gas heat on purpose and runs its blower at full airflow to dilute any leaked refrigerant. It also switches on a ventilation fan or alarm if one is connected.
- Once the sensor stops detecting refrigerant, the blower keeps running for five more minutes and then the furnace goes back to normal by itself, if there is no other fault.
- Book a licensed HVAC technician to look for a leak at the indoor coil and to check the R-32 sensor and its wiring.
How to read this code on your unit
The code shows on the three-character display on the furnace control board, which you can see through the sight glass on the blower compartment. IdL means the furnace is idle and normal. A blank display means the board has no power or has failed.
Booking an HVAC technician
Book a licensed air conditioning technicianHVAC technician
- Do not open any panels. Refrigerant circuits must only be opened by a licensed technician.
- Note the code, which unit shows it (indoor or outdoor), and the model numbers of both units.
- Book a licensed air conditioning technician and give them those details.
