Goodman gas furnace code EE: No power to the control board, or an internal control fault
Gas furnace, Canada and United States
The furnace display stays blank and a ComfortNet thermostat shows EE (internal fault). The control board has no 115 V or 24 V power, a fuse has blown or a breaker has tripped, or the board has an internal fault. The furnace does not run.
You can often clear this yourself. Work through the causes below in order, most likely first.
What causes it
-
The power to the furnace is switched off, a circuit breaker has tripped or a house fuse has blown.
Check the thermostat and the power to the furnaceYou can do this
- Check the thermostat is working and set to HEAT above the room temperature, or to COOL below it if the problem is with cooling.
- If the blower runs all the time, look at the thermostat's fan switch. ON runs the blower constantly; AUTO runs it only while heating or cooling.
- Check that the power switch for the furnace, often a switch on or near it, is turned on.
- Check the electrical panel for a tripped circuit breaker or a failed fuse for the furnace. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse. If the breaker trips again, leave it off and call a qualified servicer.
- Make sure both furnace doors are in place. A switch stops the furnace from running while the blower door is off.
-
The blower door is off or not seated, so the door switch has cut the power.
Same check as above: Check the thermostat and the power to the furnace
-
The 24 V wires are loose or connected wrongly, or a short in the 115 V or 24 V wiring has blown the 3 A fuse on the control board.
-
The integrated control board has an internal fault and needs replacing.
How to read this code on your unit
The code shows on the two-character display on the furnace control board, which you can see through the sight glass on the blower compartment. On means normal operation. A blank display means the board has no power or has failed. A ComfortNet thermostat, if fitted, shows the same codes with a short message and uses EE for an internal fault.
