Carrier gas furnace code 11: No previous fault stored

Gas furnace, Canada and United States

The control has no fault stored. Stored codes are erased automatically after 72 hours, so a fault older than that no longer shows. On some older boards with a red light, a power cut also erases them. It is what the light shows when the last code is recalled and nothing has gone wrong.

On the status light, this code is 1 short flash, then 1 long flash.

You can often clear this yourself. Work through the causes below in order, most likely first.

What causes it

Standard amber-LED furnaces

  1. Nothing has gone wrong that the control recorded. If the furnace still does not heat, the troubleshooting guide moves on to the thermostat and its wiring.

Check the thermostat and the power to the furnaceYou can do this

    1. Check the thermostat is in HEAT mode and set above the room temperature.
    2. Check the fuses or circuit breaker for the furnace, and check the furnace's electrical power supply switch is on.
    3. If the furnace still does not run, note the status light code, without removing the blower door or turning the power off first, and call for service.

Ultra-low NOx furnaces

  1. Nothing has gone wrong that the control recorded. If the furnace still does not heat, check the thermostat and the power to the furnace.

Same check as above: Check the thermostat and the power to the furnace

How to read this code on your unit

The amber status light (red on some older boards) on the furnace control shows through a small window in the blower access door. A steady light means the control has power and no fault to show. A code is two digits. Count the short flashes for the first digit, then the long flashes for the second, so 3 short flashes followed by 3 long flashes is code 33, and 1 short then 1 long is code 11. Write the code down before you open the door or switch the furnace off.

Booking a licensed gas technician

Book a licensed gas technicianlicensed gas technician

  1. Turn the unit off and leave the covers on. Gas components must only be serviced by a licensed technician.
  2. Note the code, how often it appears, and the model and serial numbers from the rating label.
  3. Book a licensed gas technician and give them those details.
